WER Architects/Planners Associate Receives National AIA Young Architects Award
WER Architects/Planners is pleased to announce that James Meyer, AIA, LEED AP, has been selected by The American Institute of Architects to receive the 2015 Young Architects Award. This award is given by the AIA to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career. “I am honored that the AIA has chosen me to be one of the 2015 Young Architects,” said Meyer. “To be among this group of prestigious current and past winners is surreal. I have been very lucky to work with some amazing professionals and organizations throughout my career who have always encouraged my endeavors.” Meyer was selected along with thirteen other architects from around the country who will receive the award at the 2015 AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
“James is very deserving of this honor,” said David Sargent, AIA, WER Architects/Planners CEO. “He has a passion for architecture and an understanding of how good architecture can effect how we live, learn and work. James is very talented, but it is his professional and civic dedication that is an important example of how architects can impact our communities.”
Meyer joined WER in 2007 and has been using his hard work, dedication, and passion for architecture and placemaking, to make an impact on both his city and profession. Upon graduation, Meyer was awarded a prestigious travelling fellowship from the Skidmore Owings and Merrill Foundation as part of an annual portfolio competition. On his fellowship, he travelled throughout Europe studying many of the great cities in the world, with a particular focus on public space and city fabrics. Meyer is committed to bringing a level of excellence to everything he does, and believes that every project must consider its role in the wider debate of our built environment. Meyer was awarded the 2013 AIA Arkansas Emerging Professional Award, is a founding board member of studioMAIN, the Regional Associate Director of the AIA Gulf States, a regional representative on the AIA National Associates Committee, is an Architecture + Design Network board member, a graduate of Leadership Greater Little Rock and earlier this year was named as an associate with WER.
