Southern Arkansas University has an excellent Science program with dedicated professors who have a passion for their individual fields of expertise and true motivation to help students succeed. What they were lacking in was an innovated, up-to-date facility.
WER Architects designed the Southern Arkansas University Science Center in 2011. Now biology, chemistry, physics, industrial technology and biochemistry students can have hands-on training in the region’s newest science facility. Throughout the facility is state-of-the-art instrumentation and equipment for the numerous pre-professional programs housed in the new Science Center. The ground floor is primarily classrooms, computer science suites and Physics labs. The facility also includes a 120 seat slopped floor lecture hall, staff offices and work areas for both students and professors.
The laboratories of the Department of Biology are situated on the second floor and maintain a full complement of powerful analytical equipment, including sub-zero freezers, anaerobic growth chambers, centrifuges, and water baths. The laboratories of the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, on the third floor of the Science Center, are equipped with a chemical fume hoods, spectrophotometers, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, as well as many other of the latest advancements in analytical instrumentation.
The Southern Arkansas University Science Center received an ASID Excellence in Interior Design Bronze Award and an ASHRAE Technology Award. The ASHRAE Technology Award recognizes outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation.
