Project Details
202,000 total square feet
$37.5 Million Total Construction Cost

WER Architects designed a new middle school for the Pulaski County Special School District, which opened in August 2018. The new middle school provides appropriate space for its existing student population as well for the expansion by constructing a new cluster of buildings containing approximately 145,000-square-feet of classrooms, administrative, gym, dining, commons and support areas. The target population of the facility is 799 students with key areas scaled for an eventual 1,000-student population.

The new middle school provides enhancements in music and STEM learning environments. The core academic wing of the school is divided into three distinct learning communities, one for each grade. STEM learning labs are located in each community for shared use.

The building is three stories with single-story high bay components including a media center, gymnasium, dining and theater. The shared multipurpose facility is a free-standing structure.

The new middle school provides a fresh face for the campus and provides a state-of-the-art facility to support PCSSD’s goals to attract and retain students in this West Pulaski County zone. The facility takes full advantage of 21st-century learning environments utilizing flexible centers for each grade that will focus on project-based learning solutions. Common areas, including dining, are utilized for school performances, pre-function facilities for basketball games and student presentations.
